Adventures of Grampi, Cami and Eli

2021 Jan 3

There had been snow but then recent rains, so the rivers were full and running hard. Cami and Eli had not seen a big waterfall, so I took them to see Snoqualmie Falls.

In the summer you can see much of the lip of the falls, but not now! The volume of water was huge. It thundered, and blew a dampening mist everywhere.

I can usually spend a bit of time here because there is so much beauty, but like many young kids, Cami and Eli didn't take long to look at at a waterfall. We went back to the car, and I was thinking about what else might be interesting to do together. There had been some snow in the grass by the road as we came in. Snoqualmie Pass wasn't much farther up the road, so I thought it would be interesting to see what was up there now.

As we climbed to the pass, the snow all around increased, but the roads were still good. We took the exit and then there was a lot of snow! To keep the access open for the ski area, they had pushed the snow into high embankments on either side of the road. We parked and Cami & Eli went out to climb.

They had a great time, but eventually got their boots completely stuck, so I rescued them. However, they were starting to get cold so we went back to the car.

Now we had an hour ride home and they reverted to pushing each other's buttons. This would not do. They were bored and a little hungry, so I used an old trick from when my boys were young.

I started telling them stories about when I was a kid in Japan. The trip went by quickly as they listened. When we pulled up at home I hadn't run out of stories, and they were still quietly attentive. It was fun for me to be a storyteller for this second generation.
