Alan's State Ensemble Competitions
The (French) horn section at Inglemoor High School has been quite strong because of good section coaching. Alan's group was able to go to State Music competition twice. The exciting part was that they won first prize both years.
The first year (April 2005) they played from Quartet #3 - The Sooners by Kerry Turner. This piece is written effectively for four first horns - all the parts are equally difficult. Alan choose the lowest part because of the challenge of playing those notes. You can definitely hear them.
The next year (April 2006) they played a horn quartet by the Brazilian composer Villa Lobos - Chorus #4. It has a modern feel.
