Mar 24, 2008 - I took a blog break

Hello my readers. I took a break from the blog. Funny how that happens - you don't plan these things, but then time goes by and there it was.

I have back-filled a few events that happened earlier this year. And the messages page was steadily kept up to date.

The middle of this year is likely to be a busy one, so more content should be coming...

Mar 23, 2008 - Easter

This Easter after church we had a family dinner. Everybody except for Alan was able to be there. We did call Alan and put him on the speakerphone, just as we sat down to eat. So he had a part in the day too.

20080323_easter0 Melanie made a very delicious ham dinner.

Mar 20, 2008 - Anniversary Weekend

Annually we take off for a weekend on an anniversary get-away. This year we stayed in Mount Vernon - not too far from home. It was our 25th anniversary! We had a wonderful time.

20080320_anniversary0 The first night we ate at a Mexican restaurant.

Feb 24, 2008 - Walking at the Lord Hill Park

This day I checked out the Lord Hill Regional Park with Jasmine. It is quite popular with mountain bikers. It has an interesting mix of evergreen and deciduous.

20080224_lord_hill0 At this time of the year, there was no leaf canopy, so the open section of the road ahead was bright and unshaded. After going through the firs, it felt like coming out into an open room.

Feb 23, 2008 - Walking on the Tolt Pipeline Trail

This day Melanie, Jessica, and Jasmine and I walked on the Tolt Pipeline trail. This right-of-way has a buried pipe bringing water from the Tolt River to the city of Seattle. Most of the way is hilly, but it is a fantastic linear trail.

20080223_tolt_pipeline0 I picked a section that had only modest hills.

Feb 10, 2008 - Walking at Kayak Point Park

I usually go on a walk with our dog Jasmine on the weekends. It does us both good. I have been trying to find new places to explore. Although Kayak Point Park is a bit north, I checked it out.

It has a section of the park up on the bluffs that is for camping, and a section below that is on the Puget Sound.

20080210_kayak_point0 The waterfront is littered with big driftwood logs. It had some bright purple sea shells on the rocks.

Dec 30, 2007 - Extended Family at Warm Beach

We had our second annual extended family stay at Warm Beach. (previous year) We had two nights there, but the time was pretty full so it seemed to go by very quickly.

20071230_WarmBeach0 The Christmas lights were beautiful as before. Many things were similar, but there were some new displays.

Dec 25, 2007 - Christmas with Family

Christmas is more complicated when the kids start growing up. There are multiple families with which to have Christmas celebrations. Austin & Janae's family open gifts Christmas eve, so they got to bed very late.

20071225_Christmas0 So we didn't get up too early to exchange gifts at our place.

Dec 01, 2007 - Marilyn's Web Page

My sister Marilyn has started a web site. She has populated it initially with pictures from a recent trip to France. Go to the Photo Albums page. They saw some very beautiful places and took some excellent pictures.

P.S. They also added another one with general family information.

Nov 29, 2007 - Andrew's Music Video

Continuing with Andrew's video production class, his latest project was a music video. Their song is the Beatles' song "Maxwell's Silver Hammer".

Although the music is upbeat, the words are morbid because the main character kills a bunch of people. Paul McCartney said he wrote the song to be about things that go wrong in life. However, Andrew's group kept it comically light and the video is quite funny. Andrew gets knocked off seven times in the video. -Can you count them?

Maxwell's Silver Hammer Music Video

The video is around 11MB, so it will take a while to open.

Nov 22, 2007 - Thanksgiving 2007

We had Thanksgiving at our place again this year. Early I invited a bunch of people, but they all had other commitments. Then Janae's family was able to come over.

So we had a full house. The food was incredibly good, but it filled us up too quickly!

After the turkey, the girls were really sleepy.

P.S. I updated some pictures of The Chief hike.

Nov 10, 2007 - My Origins World View

or   Two views on how life came to be:

Your world view is extremely important. In fact, it may be your most important belief. It gives your thoughts structure, and is your basis for interpreting the world around you. It is your belief of what is truth.

Your world view includes the abstract and philosophical assumptions that you have. From these you build up a model of the world. The model includes your learning and experiences, and it enables you to make predictions about objects and situations. The view and model might be thought of as being at the ends of a continuum: the world view works with big truths and the model works with details of operation.

There is a lot of randomness in our world. Detecting what is real in all this noise is not easy. Our world view and model of the world work together, as a system that allow us to recognize what we consider is important and ignore the rest. Since we cannot handle what does not fit, our world system also limits us. We reject the anomalies or interpret them into something that does fit. Therefore we may not be able to recognize anomalies for what they truly are. This means that having a correct world system is very critical.

Nov 05, 2007 - Hiking the Chief at Squamish

I went on a hike with Austin & David to the Chief at Squamish, BC.

20071105_SquamishHike0 The Chief is a massive hunk of granite that overlooks the town of Squamish on the road to Whistler. It is the rocks immediately on the other side of 99. We climbed all three peaks.
